Sergio Garcia plays the worst hole ever of his career at Cadillac Championship – Golf News
Sergio Garcia, who spent over 300 weeks of his career in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings, suffered the shame of playing the worst hole ever of his career when he made an octuple-bogey on the par-four third in the final round of the Cadillac
Championship on Sunday, March 11, 2012.
Starting with a spectacular eagle on the par-five first, the Spaniard played 12 shots to clear the distance of 438 yards on third.
Four of his shots found the water hazard present on the course, which shattered his confidence.
Just after he completed his third hole, he was then followed by the reporters to ask him about the problem he faced to go that much over par.
"I don't have the energy today, sorry guys," Garcia replied.
Despite a huge drama on third, Garcia did not let his confidence down for the whole round and made a good comeback by carding five birdies afterwards.
His total score at the end of the round was four-over par 76 to share the 60th place on the leaderboard with four other players.
Another setback of the round was seen in the form of Tiger Woods’ withdrawal from the event after he teed off at the 12th. He decided to walk off the course after he felt pain in his Achilles tendon.
According to Woods, he was feeling the pain since he started his round. He kept thinking that it might get well with the passage of time.
However, it became worse and Woods decided to quit the event that never saw him standing out of the top 10 in all his appearances.
One of the most interesting moments of the final round at TPC Blue Monster at Doral was the dance of Paul Casey’s Caddie when Casey made an ace on par-three 15th.
Casey promised Connelly, who is also known as ‘The Wee Man’, that he will share 50% of the prize money if he makes a hole-in-one.
Surprisingly, the ball went in the hole on the very first shot he played and Connelly danced with joy to get the prize from his employer.
However, he was later told by the tournament officials that the top-of-the-range Cadillac was offered for an ace on the 13th hole.
