Sergio Garcia positive of his chances in Volvo China Open – European Tour News
Spaniard Sergio Garcia is once again hoping to improve his game as he participates in the Volvo China Open on Thursday. This will be another challenge for him as the top ranked Europeans will also feature in this tournament.
Garcia wants to add another victory to his European Tour titles. It will be rather tough for him as the defending champion Y.E. Yang and Padraig Harrington will highlight the tournament. The 31-year-old is confident of making it through to the final day.
He looked confident in the practice round he played. Sergio was praised by the efforts laid down by the greens-keeper as the course looked in immaculate condition. His recent outing in the Masters was not a great one, as Garcia finished tied for the 35th
spot. Although he had a few under par rounds, but was unable to show his brilliance.
The European Tour member has also held the second spot in the official world golf rankings. Three years back, he was in superb form as he was winning tournaments. After that, he slipped out of the top ranked players and is currently placed at the 73rd
spot.
As Sergio participates in the Volvo China Open, he surely will be hoping to improve his rankings by lifting the championship trophy. He took a long break last year and made a come-back to the arena a few weeks back. His hard work on the range is yet to show
him results this season.
Although, he has not missed a cut in the four tournaments he played this year, still the powerful hitting of the former World Number two is missing. He is known for his beautiful iron shots, as the veteran is still in the hunt for a break-through victory
this season. Sergio’s last victory came in 2008 at the HSBC Champions.
In HSBC Championship, he played well during all the four rounds and won in a play-off situation against Oliver Wilson.
After playing the Masters, Garcia said, "I think the Masters for the most part was quite positive. Unfortunately I had a bad nine holes on the third day. Other than that it was another step in the right direction, but I'm hoping to come here to Chengdu and
continue to do the right things."
Garcia is always up for playing competitive golf. Now, it will be a tough task for him to curb the challenge of his opponents. The course is a tough one as the winds will be blowing in the faces of players on a few holes.
The event, which is being played at the Luxehills Country Club, will produce some excellence on the first day.
The former World Number two is all set and ready to unleash his game on the course. He is confident that there is momentum in his swing which will help him produce an excellent round.
