Sergio Garcia returns to his favourite hunting ground, The TPC Sawgrass to reinvent his masterful stroke
Rampaging Spaniard Sergio Garcia is back in the blitz and has crossed the Atlantic for his bid in the latest episode of The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, a course he reckons, suits his style of play.
Garcia finished for a joint 12th at the Masters this year, where he was hoping to bag the elusive title for the first major victory of his career.
Dejected and dismayed, Garcia lashed out at his performance and went over to say that he does not deserve to win a major title.
For the moment, the 32-year-old Garcia has collected himself to return to his winning ways and is hoping to reinvent his stellar performance of the year 2008 at TPC Sawgrass where he won the championship taking over Paul Goydos on the Playoff.
He said, "The first time I came here in 2000, I saw the course and said this is the kind of course I like to play. It's kind of like Valderrama (in Spain). It's a course I've always felt comfortable on, always liked".
Garcia broke his two-year long winless streak with consecutive wins on the European Tour at Castelló Masters and Andalucía Masters.
He tackled the treacherous Club de Golf Valderrama with amazing ease, a course often considered as one of the toughest courses on the European Tour.
He added, "It's the kind of course where you have to work the ball. It tests pretty much every part of your game. I know the shot I want to hit on pretty much every hole”.
Besides winning the Players Championship in 2008, Garcia also landed runners up at the Stadium Course on TPC Sawgrass when he had to let go of the title to the raging Phil Mickelson in 2007.
Winner of 22 professional events in his career, Garcia turned professional in the year 1999 and has since won many accolades for his home country.
He fell for disastrous form vows and toppled out of the top-50 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and returned to top form with his back-to-back victories at home turf.
He is considered as one of the few unfortunate European Tour players who haven’t won a major title in their otherwise stellar careers.
