Sergio Garcia revitalized for the Volvo Golf Champions event
Taking a 10-week break from competitive golf, Spanish player Sergio Garcia is eager to play in the Volvo Golf Champions event this weekend. The inaugural edition of this European Tour event will start from 27 January and end on
30 January at the Royal Golf Course in Bahrain. The tournament carries a purse of 1.7 Million Euros.
Formerly ranked as the world number two, Garcia took some time off just like he did before the PGA Championship in August 2010. The player suffered a severe dip in form last year and slipped to number 80 in the official world golf
rankings.
"I am looking forward to playing, looking forward to enjoying it out there and hopefully, having a good time and do some of the things we know how to do," said Garcia."I am looking forward to building some momentum, enjoying it,
having fun out there and getting the game back to where we know we can get it. It is obviously a work in process. I still have a bit of work to do, but I think as the week goes on, you kind of get into the competition mode and you start getting used to it.
We’ll get better. It's not going to be easy, but I am looking forward to the challenge, and that is a big positive."
Garcia played in the 2010 Castello Masters, which is hosted by Garcia himself. He had won the opening edition of the event back in 2008. Sergio was also vice captain to Colin Montgomerie in the Ryder Cup. His assistance to Monty
truly helped the Europeans gain an amazing victory at Celtic Manor in October, last year. Garcia said that it was annoying to be in Wales and not playing. Garcia said that even though he did a lot, not playing in the match himself obviously made him feel a
bit left out.
Garcia, who reached his career high ranking in November 2008, has found his love for golf again and thus is eager to participate. Looking younger than ever at 31, Garcia embedded himself in the hearts of golf fans after his amazing
performance in the 1999 PGA Championship. Even though Tiger Woods won that major, Garcia was adulated for his miraculous shot on the last hole. Finishing in second place, it was the closest Sergio ever got to winning a major.
Being the talented player that he is, Sergio hopes to make the most of 2011, beginning his quest with the Volvo Champions this weekend.
