Sergio Garcia shines in Australia
The second round of the Australian Masters gave some good news to Spanish champion Sergio Garcia, who set the course on fire with a 6-under 65.
Garcia himself was very eager to take part in the masters and had even said that he isn’t intimidated by Tiger Woods anymore. Well, Garcia certainly showed that he is the king of the jungle when he completed a bogey free round today at the Victoria Golf
Club in Australia.
Not letting the unpleasant weather bring him down, Garcia teed off from the tenth hole and posted birdies on the 12th, 17th and 18th hole. He also birdied the ninth, seventh and third hole and ended the day atop the leader
board. Garcia is four under after eighteen holes.
The defending champion of the tournament, Tiger Woods, is at one under after eight holes. Yesterday, Woods gave a solid opening with a finish of 69.
Daniel Gaunt, who was one of the three leaders of Thursday, carded a 34 on the front nine but slipped due to a double bogey on the 10th and a bogey on the 17th hole and finished with a one over par 71. After eight holes, Gaunt is at
5-under.
Posting a 2-over 73 in the first round, Garcia is now in a good position to fight for his first title in two years. Garcia, who has now left his competitors struggling, says that his performance is evidence of how much his game has improved. Sergio started
the year at 66th position in the Abu Dhabi Championship and is now in 13th position. The Spaniard had a very relaxed year since he took a two month break after the US PGA Championship in August.
This was due to his fit of fury during the grand event. Garcia didn’t do very well and hit a couple of bunker shots with the frustrations piling up. Because of his actions, Garcia took a break to revitalize and get back into form. His return shows improvement
as he finished in the top ten at the Andalucía Masters in Valderrama. His only top-ten finish in America was his fourth place at the Match Play Championship.
Now that he’s back, he feels good and also with his emotions his place, he’s ready to play some good golf.
"It just depends on the day", Garcia said. "If I wake up and feel at ease, it seems like everything will go right. If I wake up not feeling so great, it can be a struggle as we go on. It can be better".
Overall, Garcia had an amazing day in Australia and said that he’s taking things slowly and taking the positives out of everything.
