Sergio Martinez: Thanks to Freddie Roach as he has made Julio junior a better fighter – Boxing news
Sergio Gabriel Martinez, the number one middleweight in the world, praised Freddie Roach and his methodologies that have revamped Julio Junior into an entirely different pugilist.
During a recent interview, Sergio commented that Chavez Junior was a static fighter and took more punishment adding, that after Roach’s advice he has started to keep distance and takes least punches.
Sergio, also known as ‘Maravilla’ or ‘The Wonder’, is undoubtedly a wondrous and somewhat charismatic brawler who will challenge his arch nemesis Julio Cesar Chavez Junior for the WBC middleweight gold.
The duo is scheduled to meet at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, headlining the pay-per-view. The fight card will also witness Guillermo Rigondeaux defend his WBA World super bantamweight title against Robert Marroquin in a 12-round
clash.
Martinez recently shared his thoughts in a detailed interview and shed light on various matters. Gabriel was of the view that Julio made a wise decision by hiring services of world renowned trainer Freddie Roach, adding that the positive change is evident.
Gabriel commented that Julio Junior was a stagnant fighter who sometimes moved with speed and agility as a result he took a lot of beating, adding that thanks to Freddie whose priceless advice has mend his boxing style a lot.
The Argentinean 37-year-old stated, “Thanks to all of his work in training with Freddie Roach, he’s clearly become a better fighter over the past year. He used to be static fighter who would only come forward with a few speeds. Now he knows how to keep his
distance in the ring and attempts to use his intelligence. That is important for him because he used to take a lot of punishment before and now he gets hit a little less.”
Later on, Sergio bragged in his normal manner and commented, “At least now, he can enter the ring against me. It doesn’t guarantee him victory, but it does mean that he can give a good account of himself.”
It must be noted that Gabriel literally hates Julio junior because of his false perception built by the media giants. Sergio was the WBC middleweight champion but a series of events led him to vacate the gold.
Julio after the passage of few months became the WBC middleweight champion in a bout which seemed to be orchestrated, the reason why Sergio calls Julio a false champion and a lad whose repo is built on fake publicity.
The clash will be an explosive one as both men secure top spots in the world rankings. The show will be televised live on September 15, 2012.
