Sergio Martinez says he has enough speed to counter Julio Cesar Chavez Junior – Boxing news
Sergio Martinez is confident of the fact that he has the speed edge over Julio Cesar Chavez Junior, commenting that no matter how much the Mexican weighs, he will have no problems as he has collided with taller and bigger men like Paul Williams and Kelly
Pavlik.
Martinez is currently busy promoting his upcoming opponent Julio Cesar Chavez Junior.
During a recent media interaction, he was asked as to what were the factors that will aid him in winning the bout. The Argentinean pounder commented that despite the fact that Julio is entering the ring at 180 pounds, he will not have any difficulty in taking
on the Mexican.
Sergio stated, “I’ll have to deal with his physical mass, but Paul Williams was taller than me and Kelly Pavlik was much bigger than me. In boxing, size doesn’t matter. He can weigh what he wants, but my advantage will still be speed.”
While further explaining the scenario, the current WBC diamond middleweight champion, commented that more weight will mean more difficulties for the Mexican. He added that Julio will have to move around for 12 rounds with 180 pounds which will slow his speed
making him an easy target.
Martinez commented, “The bigger he is, the more of a target I’ll have to hit. He’ll have to move 180 pounds around for many rounds, and that will cost him.”
Also known as ‘The Maravilla’, Sergio reiterated that he is in no mood to end the fight earlier, adding that he wants to use this opportunity to help Julio learn a lesson as to how hard it is at the highest level and how tough it is to face a real champion.
Sergio stated, “I don’t want to end this fight quickly. I want him to know what it’s like to be on this level and what it’s like to be against the real champion, and what it’s like to be with a person who will make you exert yourself to the max.”
On September 15, 2012, Martinez’s dream will become true as he has been following the Mexican proud for almost a year now.
