Sergio Martinez says he will be facing Floyd Mayweather in a few months’ time – Boxing news
The 36-year-old Maravilla, Sergio Martinez, who is the current World Boxing Council diamond middleweight champion, has said that he will set up a clash with the five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council Welterweight World Champion,
Floyd Mayweather between March to May 2012.
Martinez, who holds a record of winning 48 of his 52 professional fights (2 Draws), with 27 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, stated Andy Lee wanted to fight him but he turned him down, as he said he wants to fight with the likes of Manny Pacquiao
and Floyd Mayweather.
“Andy Lee asked to fight me but the truth is I’m only thinking in to fight either Manny Pacquiao or Mayweather. Those are the fights I want, and I believe that in five months the bout with either of them is going to take place,” explained Martinez.
Manny ‘Pac-Man’ Pacquiao is currently rated as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He is also an eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion). However, Martinez believes
Mayweather is superior to Pacquiao when it comes to skills.
Martinez insisted Mayweather is a very intelligent fighter who always makes proper use of his skills. Martinez also added fighting Pacquiao would be a lot easier for him instead of Mayweather.
“Mayweather is much more talented, he has a lot of wisdom and he takes advantage of his strengths. His defense is to attack, neither is an easy fighter, but the less dangerous one is Pacquiao, Mayweather is an enigma,” Martinez said.
The Former WBC and WBO World Middleweight champion, Martinez, is currently rated as the number three pound-for-pound fighter in the world whereas Mayweather was a formerly rated as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the world before he was removed
from the rankings due to inactivity. Therefore, a clash between these two will certainly be an explosive one.
