Sergio Martinez wants to take on Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather at 154 pounds – Boxing news
The current World Boxing Council’s Diamond and Ring World Middleweight Champion, Sergio Martinez, has revealed he is willing to take on the eight-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao or the five-division world champion, Floyd Mayweather, at a catch weight,
154 lbs.
The Argentinean pugilist, Martinez, who was the 2010 Fighter of the Year, told the media he never wanted the World Boxing Council Emeritus World Super Welterweight Champion, Mayweather or the World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion),
Manny Pacquiao, to move up in the weight category to fight him.
Martinez claimed he was willing to fight either guy at a catch weight that is 154 pounds.
“I never said to Pacquiao or Mayweather to come up to my weight at 160 pounds. What I said in the past was hey, let's make an agreement. Let's do a catch weight or let’s fight at 154 pounds,” Martinez said.
The 36-year-old Martinez, who has won 47 of his 51 fights with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, believes Pacquiao or Mayweather only look for an easy prey and that is why they do not appeal him.
Martinez, who is also the former World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organisation World Middleweight Champion, stated the Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao, has mostly taken old guys and he thinks the same about the undefeated American combatant,
Mayweather.
While speaking on his inclusion, he remarked, “I'm pretty sure that’s probably what their intentions are. I mean Pacquiao is fighting everybody that's either 36 or 37 or 38, and it's the same thing with Mayweather, besides taking on (Victor) Ortiz. A lot
of his opponents are really much older so that might be the case.”
Pacquiao is currently set to take on Juan Manuel Marquez whereas Mayweather on the same note will be taking on Victor Ortiz in September 2011. However let’s see if Martinez gets a potential bout with Pacquiao or Mayweather afterwards.
