Sergio Perez – A dream come true
As we all know, the current GP2 driver Sergio Perez will step up into the big league, Formula 1, as he signed a contract with the team for the 2011 Formula 1 season alongside Kamui Kobayashi at BMW Sauber. Perez was invited to the team’s factory to Hinwil
in Switzerland recently and is having a seat fitting for his test debut in Abu Dhabi after the end of this year’s season. The 20-year-old Mexican stated that it is like a dream come true for him and he will not let his team down next season. Unlike some people
who were given a chance to drive for the last 6 races for the team and blew it.
Yes, Nick Heidfeld decided to become the test driver for Pirelli, the tyres suppliers for the 2011 season, later on decided to join Sauber after the team expressed its will to replace their previous driver Pedro de la Rosa for the rest of the 2010 season.
Nick was at the top of the world as he thought that since he tested for Pirelli for some time, the top running teams will shower him with offers for the next season. Well, that did not happen. And it was never going to either. Come on Nick, you should have
at least figured out by now that you are not better than Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel or even Adrian Sutil any day of the week.
Nick’s flying ego was thrashed back to the ground when his team signed a rookie GP2 driver Sergio Perez. Team Sauber, I love you guys for what you did to him. Nick was way above his head after he was being boasted by the media. He was not able to perform
up to the mark after he returned to Sauber and Sauber made the right choice by not signing him.
However, Sergio Perez went to meet his future team and find out where he is going to live when he moves to Hinwil. He was excited about meeting his team and is looking forward to this experience and helping the team.
“I think they’re a great bunch of people; they have received me very, very well, and I am really happy. I did quite a lot of work with the engineers as it is good to get to know each other. All in all it was a very nice experience”, he said.
Sergio enjoyed the factory and thought that it was really huge. He believes that Sauber has the resources and the environment required for building a competitive Formula 1 car. Perez will be driving his first Formula 1 car in Abu Dhabi on 17 November right
after his final GP2 race.
Sergio Perez has known Kamui Kobayashi since his time in GP2 as they were both racing in 2009.
“I think he is a great driver, I rate him highly. He has also done some really impressive racing in Formula One, so I think he will be a very good benchmark for me. We have to work together and develop the car in order to achieve the best possible
results,” he added.
The Mexican driver always dreamed of becoming an F1 driver and one has to agree, that he was a better choice than Nick Heidfeld. Sergio started racing at the age of six and always tried to push himself to the limit in order to achieve the best in Formula
1.
“I had a very difficult time when going alone to Europe - to Germany actually - at the age of 15. It was hard but I took my chances. Now I’m looking forward to succeeding in Formula One,” said the young rookie.
Sergio Perez loves to compete in a tough competition every single day whether it is driving or anything else. The young rookie seems very determined and that is the sort of a driver every team hopes of signing in order to achieve useful solid results.
