Sergio Perez admits Monaco crash was a huge setback for him – Formula 1 news
Sauber’s Sergio Perez has recently admitted that his crash at the Monaco Grand Prix was a huge setback for him keeping in mind that the 2011 Formula 1 season was his debut season in the sport as a result of which he was unable to take part in a couple of
races of the campaign.
“The accident threw me back quite a lot,” he said. “I lost my momentum and so it took me a long time to get back my normal level of performance.”
The young Mexican driver went through a terrible crash during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend as a result of which he was unable to take part in the race the following Sunday and even after that, he had to sit out of the Canadian Grand Prix as well due to
medical complications.
As a result, he lost some ground but still his performance has been quite outstanding and he has proved that he can take on the top running drivers if he is provided with a good competitive car.
“No, I was not worried, except that for a couple of races I had to recover. Sauber is a really good team for a rookie. The support I have is great. Well, first of all I have to prove that I can do my job well. Of course I want to have a lot of success in
Formula One and be World Champion, but how and when I will move in that direction, at the moment I have no idea,” said Perez.
Nevertheless, Sauber are looking pretty good this year as they are currently in 6th place ahead of Force India which means that they are the best of the rest in terms of points.
Lotus Renault GP and Mercedes GP on the other hand are way ahead in terms of pace as a result of which catching up with them is not going to be possible for the rest of the mid-running teams.
