Sergio Perez aiming another podium in 2012 European Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber-Ferrari driver Sergio Perez has said that he is aiming another podium finish in 2012 European Grand Prix which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 24.
Perez secured an incredible third podium finish in the Canadian GP at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10 after setting off from 15th grid position and he is targeting to achieve the same results in the upcoming race.
“I enjoyed the Montreal result very much and I want more of that,” said Perez. “I like the track in Valencia a lot and also the atmosphere during the race weekend, as we are quite close to the fans. I don't have the best memories of my Formula One debut
race in Valencia, as it was last year and a very difficult one for me. The Valencia street circuit has quite long straights with hard braking into the corners, and what we have learnt from Montreal will be important for that.”
The Mexican driver surprised everyone with his performance in the Malaysian GP held at Sepang International Circuit in which he secured second podium finish in rainy conditions behind the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari after setting off from 9th grid
position.
Furthermore, it will be important to mention that after second race, there have been a lot of speculations about the replacement of Felipe Massa, who had a struggling start, with Perez in the Scarlet team.
However, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali discharged all the rumours and said that they are ready to provide the Brazilian driver with everything which he may need in order to improve his performance. On the other hand, Perez also expressed
that he is committed with his team for this season.
At present, he is standing at 9th place in the drivers’ championship with 37 points. In addition, he is ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams and behind Jenson Button of McLaren with 8 points.
Over and beyond, he is positively looking forward to perform well in the approaching races so as to make his position stronger in this year’s championship fight.
