Sergio Perez aims for a podium finish in 2012 British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Sergio Perez has said that he is aiming to secure a podium finish in 2012 British Grand Prix which is to be held at Silverstone Circuit on July 8.
Perez expressed that he has a very good affiliation with the track of the forthcoming race. Moreover, he said that he is confidently looking forward to perform well in the British GP in order to secure a competitive position.
“I really like the Silverstone circuit,” Perez said. “I have won there in Formula 3 and in GP2 and also last year my first Formula One race was good. I came seventh and this was actually my best race result in 2011. Back then it was crazy race in difficult weather conditions with track drying. I think our car will be good in Silverstone and I want to fight for another podium there.”
In addition, he is focussing to improve his qualifying performance for the upcoming race as he believes that overtaking in Silverstone will be very difficult.
“In my view in Silverstone it is even more difficult to overtake than it was in Valencia, therefore qualifying is high priority on the job list,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that he is eagerly waiting for the approaching race which is very special to him as he will get a chance to see his fans and to meet with his friends in England.
The Mexican driver is currently standing at 9th place in the drivers’ championship with 39 points. Besides, he is ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams and behind Jenson Button of McLaren with 10 points.
It will be important to mention that he secured a striking second podium finish in the Malaysian GP after starting from 9th grid position.
Even though, he could not score even a single point in the next four grands prix. However, he made a strong comeback in the Canadian GP in which he secured third podium finish after setting off from 15th place in the grid.
Above and beyond, he has proved himself as one of the most competent drivers in this year and it will be interesting to see how the season makes progress for him.
