Sergio Perez aims to perform well in the qualifying of 2012 Abu Dhabi GP – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Sergio Perez is aiming to perform well in the qualifying of the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after the free practice at Yas Marina Circuit.
Perez seemed quite comfortable behind the wheel of his car during the Friday practice in Abu Dhabi and successfully gathered the essential information regarding their update package in order to make further advancement.
The Mexican driver said that he is very happy with the progress which his team has made in the season until now and is contended with the pace of his car ahead of this weekend’s race.
Moreover, he said that everything has gone according to their plan and they are pleased with their performance in the practice sessions.
In addition, he said that they are trying their best to come up with the necessary preparations so as to be able to make their way into the final qualifying session to secure a competitive grid slot for the race.
“For me it was a good day,” he declared. “We have completed our entire planned programme, so in this respect it was very positive. I am comfortable with the balance of the car and, therefore, I think my position in the second session is pretty much what
we are capable of here. This means Q3 is possible.”
On the other hand, Perez’s teammate, Kamui Kobayashi struggled during the practice sessions and said that he really needs to work hard to attain better result in the forthcoming race.
In addition, he said that although he is feeling satisfied with his long run pace, but insisted that he needs to manage his tyres well to score reasonable points on the race day.
“I definitely have to work and improve the balance of the car,” said the Japanese driver. “At the moment it isn't right in any regard, but it is only day one in Abu Dhabi. The track's grip normally improves a lot here, which might also help.”
It will be very interesting to see how the drivers of the Hinwil based team perform in the remaining three grands prix of the ongoing season.
