Sergio Perez and Sauber hoping for support from financial supporter Telmex – Formula 1 news
Recent reports have revealed that Sergio Perez and his team Sauber are hoping for some backing from their Mexican financial supporter Telmex in the future.
The team has backing from Telmex and other Mexican sponsors which are mostly owned by Carlos Slim Domit who is supposedly the son of the world’s richest man. These sponsors came with Sergio Perez’s deal with Sauber due to which the team is hoping to improve
its performance vitally.
Slim was at the Spanish Grand Prix in order to check the work done by his sponsors for the team and to check the team’s performance on track.
“I am very proud, as is the whole country,” Slim told the media.
Other than that, Carlos stated that he plans to support and stick with Perez for a “long long” time, as he is confident that the Mexican driver has the potential to score outstanding results.
Perez scored his first points of the 2011 Formula 1 season at the Spanish Grand Prix as he finished in 9th place which was a major confidence boost for the young driver.
“Why not. We have a long term goal. We want to win the world championship one day. We have the time and with Perez a racing driver with great potential. He is only just beginning his great career,” Domit said when asked about the possibility of a five-year
partnership with the young driver.
Other than that, he told the media that in order to succeed in Formula 1, hundreds of millions of dollars are required which suggests that he is hoping to help Sauber and Sergio as much as he can financially.
“We will support Sauber with the necessary resources for as much development as possible. We are very happy with this team. We are like a family,” added Slim.
The upcoming race is expected to take place in Monaco this weekend and it is believed to be one of the most technical races of the Formula 1 season.
It is going to be interesting to see how Sauber perform there as they have been pretty good so far in the 2011 season with finishes amongst points.
