Sergio Perez apologises after crashing new Sauber C30 during pre-season test session in Jerez
Sauber’s Sergio Perez crashed the new Sauber C30 at the second day of the 2nd pre-season test session that took place in Jerez recently.
It was quite a disappointing sight for the team as it was obviously just a test session which did not require much speeding.
However, Sergio Perez apologised to his team for crashing the team’s new car, Sauber C30 during the session but he claims that he has learnt from this mistake.
This is going to cause a lot of problems for the team as they had planned a smooth and comfortable pre-season test session but because of this crash, the team would now have to work a lot on Sergio’s car and get it fixed before his next run which is expected
a day after the crash once again.
As a result of his crash, the session had to be stopped since the debris of his car fell on the track after he struck the side-wall barriers of the track. The front wing and left front suspension of his car were destroyed completely and the stewards waved
the red flags in order to stop the session.
“I'm fine but I feel sorry for the team, and especially the mechanics, because of the crash,” he said. “ lost the rear in turn seven and we obviously lost working time. I hope the rest of the test will be good for the team and Kamui, and they cover a lot
of mileage.”
He stated that this was just another day of racing for him and he will move on from this. The team’s technical director James Key also believes that this was just another learning experience for the rookie and these sort of experiences will help him a lot
in becoming a good Formula 1 driver in the future.
“Generally it was going fine today, but unfortunately Sergio had an off in the afternoon. He lost the rear end when he was on hard tyres, but these things happen and are part of the learning process. Overall Sergio made a good step forward,” said Key.
It was a busy day for the team up until the accident and it seems that the team’s workload has been increased immensely now for the next day of testing in Jerez.
However, he added that the team checked his car after the incident and it seems that there is no major problem with the car. The team will get the car ready for the 3rd day of testing in Jerez and it is going to be another hectic
day for Sauber as they would have to check the car and attain further data in order to ensure that they are aware of all the problems in the car.
