Sergio Perez blames Kimi Raikkonen for collision in 2013 Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Sergio Perez has blamed Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus for the collision happened in the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix because of which he could not score any points and had to face retirement.
Perez performed convincingly well in the qualifying at Circuit de Monaco and managed to secure 7th grid slot for the race. He showed admirable pace during the race and was trying to overtake Raikkonen at Nouvelle Chicane. However, the Finnish driver attempted
to cover up the inside line because of which the Mexican driver crashed into his car.
The 23-year-old asserted that the 2007 world champion didn’t give him any room to pass due to which he collided with his car and was eventually retired.
“I think Kimi did not give me any room at all,” Perez said. “I touched the wall on the entry to the corner and basically I had no room for that. It was really a big shame. I overtook Button and Fernando there, Jenson overtook me there, so at the end of the
day you have to give a little bit of space. We know Monaco is very difficult, but the main thing for us was the overheating with the brakes so we have to analyse what happened there.”
In addition, he said that he is feeling very disappointed over his result in the last race as he was doing really good, yet failed to score even a single point for his team.
“I'm very disappointed. I'm extremely disappointed, I was doing my very best,” he added.
At present, he is standing at 12th place in the drivers’ championship with 12 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso and behind his main rival, Adrian Sutil of Force India.
It is to be noted that he has not been able to score competitive points with consistency in the season so far and has faced some technical and tyre management issues in a couple of races.
Nevertheless, the Woking based squad are trying to resolve their reliability issues to come up stronger in the season ahead. Let’s see how they perform in the Canadian GP which is to be held at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on June 9, 2013.
