Sergio Perez certainly deserves to be in bigger team – Formula 1
Sauber driver Sergio Perez has impressed everyone with his amazing performance in the current season so far and has signed a new multi-year contract with McLaren for 2013 which he certainly deserves.
Perez is going to join the Woking based team as Jenson Button’s teammate from the next year onwards because Lewis Hamilton has planned to move to Mercedes after this year as Michael Schumacher’s replacement, who has decided to take retirement at the end of this season.
The Mexican driver came into limelight after he delivered an incredible performance in the Malaysian Grand Prix this year in which he secured an inspiring second podium finish behind the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
Later on, there were many speculations that he had been considered as a probable replacement of Alonso’s teammate, Felipe Massa for the coming year as the Brazilian driver failed to attain competitive results in the opening few races.
However, Massa received full support from his team boss, Stefano Domenicali who said that they will provide everything to their struggling driver which he may need to enhance his pace. Additionally, the President of the Italian team, Luca di Montezemolo asserted that even though Perez has got an extraordinary talent but he is too young to be their race driver.
Nevertheless, the 22-year-old has secured a race seat in the British squad for the next year which is undeniably one of the most competent teams and has a great history in the sport.
After the Italian GP in which Perez secured second podium finish, former F1 driver, Niki Lauda said that he has got the potential to achieve greatness in the future.
“In Italy Perez drove like a god and this in the truest sense of the word,” 63-year-old Lauda told Swiss newspaper Blick. “Unemotionally and without error. No driver has impressed me more than this season in a grand prix.”
In addition, the three-time world champion predicted that he surely has got what it takes to be a part of a bigger team.
“Perez certainly has the potential for bigger things but that does not mean he is going to Ferrari,” he added.
It will be exciting to see how he performs in the coming season.
