Sergio Perez confident about his debut season in Formula 1
Young Mexican driver Sergio Perez is hopeful of a good start to his Formula 1 career. The 21-year-old will be racing for Sauber-Ferrari in the 2011 season alongside the promising Kamui Kobayashi.
Perez is confident of a good show in his debut season and claimed that the testing had been very useful for him. He said that he was feeling comfortable in his Sauber every time he got the chance to take it out on track.
The youngster admitted that he has a long way to go and he will require a lot more experience to achieve his goals. He will be looking forward to gain as much track experience as possible from the next two testing sessions at Barcelona and Bahrain.
Perez claimed that he was physically prepared ahead of his first season. He said, “I'm physically in good shape. I've done a lot of training over recent months. So I feel I'm well prepared for the next tests and then the season opener in Bahrain. I was able
to complete a lot of laps so I'm ready on the physical side.”
The Mexican further stated that being a part of Formula 1 has been a great learning curve for him. He has been learning different aspects of the sport and with the help of his team and technicians, he has improved every day.
Dealing with the tyres has been the toughest challenge for Perez. The state of tyres changes throughout the race, which requires a lot of flexibility from the drivers. However, the youngster said that he will learn to deal with the tyres with experience.
The return of Pirelli tyres has been a challenge for most of the drivers as the tyres have degraded quickly during the first two pre-season tests.
While some drivers have criticised the Italian tyre manufacturers, others claimed that tyre degradation will make the race more interesting than it was in the 2010 season.
Perez will be heading to Mexico after the Barcelona test on 26th February for a road show. It will be a unique experience for the 21-year-old to represent his team in-front of his home crowd and the support from his fans will be a confidence booster
for him.
