Sergio Perez emotional over his last race with Sauber F1 – Formula 1 news
Sauber F1’s Sergio Perez has admitted that it will be emotional for him as he heads for his last race with team in Brazil this weekend.
“The Brazilian Grand Prix will be the last race of a very long season that has seen a lot of ups and downs, and it will be a very special event for me as it is the last race I will drive for my team of Sauber before I leave,” Perez said. “It is a great team
and I want to thank everybody for everything they have done for me over the last two years. I am sure it will be very emotional for me in Interlagos.”
He is hopeful that he will be able to thank the team properly by helping them overtake Mercedes for the fifth position on the constructors’ grid. He is focused on achieving that very target. He is very excited about the race in Brazil. He likes the Interlagos
circuit and its Senna S corners. He is also expecting a huge fan support to turn up. He is hoping the car to work well and attain them a top ten place at the end of the race.
Perez is transferring to McLaren F1 from the next season, who hired him as they were impressed by the three podium finishes he earned Sauber in the beginning of the current season.
However, he has been unable to score a single point and also has been involved in race incidents since the confirmation came in. He has been under speculation for losing his focus after the McLaren deal which he has denied. He thinks that even if he had
been performing well, critics will still raise questions and he can only prove himself once he joins one of the best teams next season.
McLaren team principal, Martin Whitmarsh, who is replacing Lewis Hamilton with Perez, is also not concerned by the lack of performance insisting that the driver is young and has a great potential to learn. On another occasion, he confessed about the risk
of taking Perez into the team.
Sauber will be replacing Perez with Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg.
