Sergio Perez feels lucky to work with Jenson Button in McLaren – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Sergio Perez, who has joined McLaren as a race driver for the 2013 Formula 1 season, has said that he is feeling lucky to have Jenson Button as his teammate.
Perez performed convincingly well with Sauber during the last season. He impressed everyone with his amazing second podium finish in the rain-hit Malaysian Grand Prix held at Sepang International Circuit behind Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. He also secured
podium finishes in Canadian and Italian grands prix and managed to score competitive points for his team. However, he failed to keep up the level of consistency during the last few races after signing his multi-year deal with the Woking based team.
Nevertheless, the Mexican driver is positively looking forward to perform well in this season for his new team. Moreover, he has expressed that he is very lucky to get a chance to drive alongside the 2009 world champion who is one of the most experienced
and talented drivers in the field.
In addition, he said that although he is under immense pressure to perform well in this season. Nonetheless, he is targeting to deliver his best for the British squad and is planning to come up stronger right from the start of the season.
Besides, he said that his aim is to win the championship for which he is making significant preparations. He also stated that he has learnt a lot from Button which will surely help him in securing good results in this season.
“I'm very lucky driver to have a champion next to me as well as such a good guy,” he said. “We are working so well together and I've been learning so much from him in my short [McLaren] career. Definitely the pressure is there, the team expects a lot from
me and I expect the same; I want to go out there and win the championship and fight everybody. I will work together with Jenson to learn a lot from him and I think we are doing very well.”
Additionally, he said that the procedures are quite different in McLaren as compared to the Swiss team.
“The procedures are very different and the way the car works,” he added.
But, he said that he is trying his best to learn about the operations and is eying to score well for his new team in this year’s championship.
