Sergio Perez feels pleased with his comparison with legendary Ayrton Senna – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Sergio Perez has become the first driver from Mexico to secure a podium finish in the last 40 years, after his splendid second place finish in 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix held at Sepang International Circuit on Sunday and now he is being compared
to the legendary Brazilian driver, Ayrton Senna in Latin America.
Perez surprised everyone with his superb drive on wet track in second race and followed Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, who won the race in the end.
Nevertheless, the 22-year-old gave a tough time to Alonso while the Spaniard admitted that Perez was very fast on track.
Moreover, Perez expressed that he is extremely pleased with his comparison with Senna, a driver who is a great inspiration and a shining star in the world of F1.
Nonetheless, he said that he still needs to work very hard and bring out the best in him in order to relish this incredible feeling.
“It makes me proud that people compare me to someone like Senna, but I've still got a lot to do in my career to receive that kind of praise,” Perez said.
It would be interesting to mention that there have been many rumours regarding the replacement of Felipe Massa of the Scarlet team who has been struggling in the season so far, with Perez.
However, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali supported Massa and said that they will provide the Brazilian driver with everything to improve his performance for the races ahead.
Furthermore, Perez also expressed his utmost commitment with Sauber and said that he was delighted with his team.
Nonetheless, he said that he is ambitious to work with a bigger team in future.
“In the future my goal is to be in a big team and to be fighting for victories,” he said. “The most important thing is having a car that gives me the chance to win races.”
In the first two races of this season, Perez has secured 22 points. Moreover, he feels positive for his F1 career and said, “I believe that in two or three years I will be fighting for the world championship.”
