Sergio Perez hopes to perform well in 2012 Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber-Ferrari driver Sergio Perez has said that he is hoping to perform well in 2012 Monaco Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Monaco in Spain on May 27.
The Mexican driver is presently standing at 10th place in the drivers’ championship with 22 points. Moreover, he is 3 points ahead of his teammate, Kamui Kobayashi and 7 points behind this year’s Spanish GP winner, Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
He secured an impressive 8th place finish in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after setting off from 22nd grid position. Later, in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, he secured an incredible second podium
finish and became the first ever Mexican driver to stand on a podium in the last 40 years.
Conversely, in the next three races he could not be able to score even a single point. Nevertheless, he expressed that he is aiming for a good finish in the upcoming race after the last year’s incident.
“This grand prix is the most special one for me,” he said. “I have been waiting to race in the Monaco GP all my life and, of course, after what happened last year I am looking forward to it even more,” he said.
It will be important to mention that he had a crash in Monte Carlo during the qualifying of the preceding season. However, he said that he is positively looking forward to the forthcoming race while he said that the accident in the previous year has made
him stronger.
“Of course I also think back to the accident I had in Q3 last year. To me it is like a watershed event in my career. There is a time before and a time after the accident. I learnt a lot from what I had to go through and I think it made me stronger,” he said.
Over and above, he said that he believes their car is capable enough to secure a competitive finish in the approaching race while he said that they are trying their best to make the essential developments and the necessary preparations for the races ahead.
