Sergio Perez joins the Ferrari Driver’s Academy
Sergio Perez has finally joined the Ferrari Driver’s Academy to begin with his preparations for the upcoming season. The decision follows the announcement of last week which stated that the driver would be running for BMW- Sauber for 2011 season.
The Ferrari powered team announced that this is part of the preparations they are carrying for the forthcoming year. The Swiss team wishes to further enhance the already mastered driving skills of the 20-year-old lad. He would be driving alongside Kamui
Kobayashi next season, starting off at the curtain raiser in March, at Bahrain Grand Prix. Kobayashi has driven with the team this year as well and has already been signed for the next season.
The Mexican driver has recently finished the season with GP2 Series, where he ended at second place. With the series he has won four races this season, of which the victory of Monaco is the most significant one.
Perez began his career in United States as a single-seater driver, racing in the National Skip Barber Championship. He flew for Europe in 2005 and continued his driving career with German Formula BMW series. Two years later he shifted to the Mexican team
in the A1 GP championship, and also took part in the British Formula Three series the same year. Continuing with the series, he finished the British Formula Three overall at 4th place in 2008, having won four races.
The start of 2009 saw him in GP2, where he ended the season with four race wins under his belt.
Now as he signed the contract with BMW- Sauber at the start of this month, Perez expressed his feelings saying that the day is a big one for him. He proclaimed that Formula One is the biggest racing series of the world and surely a dream of every auto racer.
He was happy that his dream is soon to come true.
The elevated youngster said, “I would like to thank Peter Sauber for the faith he’s shown in me and I’ll do everything I can to make the most of this wonderful opportunity.”
Peter Sauber the team owner, signed the driver happily announcing, “Sergio has been on a continuous upward curve over the past few years. He demonstrated his fighting spirit in races over the course of last season and proved that he’s ready to take the step
up into Formula One. I look forward to working with him and am in no doubt that, in Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi, we will have a strong driver pairing.”
Now, as the team has started preparing the driver and also some more changes have been brought to the team, Sauber is looking forward for a better 2011season.
