Sergio Perez looks forward to test MP4-28 in Barcelona – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Sergio Perez thinks Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona is a perfect place to test their car, MP4-28 and said that he is eagerly looking forward to gather some valuable information about their updates on Friday.
The Woking based squad have not been able to attain competitive results in the season until now as compared to their rivals. They are currently standing at 6th place in the constructors’ championship with 23 points. Moreover, they are ahead of
Toro Rosso and behind Force India.
Nevertheless, they are planning to introduce some major updates in their car for the European season so as to improve its pace. Even though, their driver, Jenson Button has downplayed the importance of the updates. However, Perez has expressed that he is
earnestly waiting to test the new parts in Barcelona.
The Mexican driver said that they are hoping to collect some essential data during the Friday practice in Barcelona so as to make the necessary progress for the forthcoming races.
“The Circuit de Catalunya is a place all grand prix drivers know well because we do a lot of miles there in the winter,” Perez said. “It'll be a good place to test the car as it's a very demanding circuit aerodynamically. We have a lot of historic data from
our testing there, and we'll get a good read on our performance when we start testing next Friday.”
“It's quite a demanding circuit aerodynamically, too, so it should be a very useful weekend for us in terms of understanding the MP4-28 and the direction forwards that we choose to take,” he added.
Besides, he said that DRS will play an important role in the approaching race, therefore they are planning to come up stronger with some new parts in order to improve their car’s downforce.
At present, he is standing at 11th place in the drivers’ championship with 10 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Adrian Sutil of Force India and behind his teammate, Button. After securing 6th place finish in the Bahrain GP, he is
eying to attain better results for his team in the season ahead.
