Sergio Perez says McLaren will work hard to perform better in Malaysia – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Sergio Perez has said that they are looking forward to work hard to improve their performance in the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix after a disappointing start in Australia.
Perez struggled a lot during the qualifying of the Australian GP. He could only secure 15th place in the grid and later remained unable to score even a single point in the race.
On the other hand, his teammate, Jenson Button also failed to score competitive points for his team. He secured 9th place finish after taking a start from 10th grid slot.
The Woking based team couldn’t match the pace of their rivals in the season opener and failed to get the desired results. Nevertheless, the Mexican driver has said that they are not feeling disappointed and are positively looking forward to perform well
in the season ahead.
The 23-year-old said that the first race was very difficult for almost all the teams. But, they will try their best to maximise their potential in the next race which is going to be held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. He also said that their
aim is to win this year’s championship for which they are working really hard.
“Last weekend's race was a difficult one for everybody on the team, but it's shown us exactly what we need to do to close down the gap to the leaders,” Perez said. “This weekend in Malaysia will be about trying to maximise the package we have while knowing
that it's not going to be enough to allow us to fight for overall victory.”
In addition, he said that they earnestly need to improve the pace of their car so as to compete well with their rivals in the next races.
“Still, we know what we have to do - and I know that everybody within the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team will be working incredibly hard to bring performance to the car,” he added.
Moreover, he said that he has learnt a lot after the first race and is now confidently targeting to come up stronger in the Malaysian GP where he scored an amazing second podium finish in the last season.
