Sergio Perez says he did not apologised to Jenson Button after the Bahrain GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Sergio Perez has said that he didn’t apologise to his teammate, Jenson Button after the incidents happened in 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix and expressed
that their relationship is still fine.
Perez seemed very aggressive on the race day at the Bahrain International Circuit and made contact with Button twice while trying to overtake him. First, he hit
his tyre with the right rear tyre of the British driver. Then, after few laps, he connected his tyres with the 33-year-old on the straight line. Nevertheless, he managed to secure 6th place finish in the race after taking a start from 12th
grid slot, which is his best result in this season until now.
The Briton was very angry after the race and called Perez’s driving dirty. In addition, he said that he has not driven alongside such an aggressive teammate in
the past. Furthermore, he insisted that the young driver must get matured now as he is driving in Formula 1.
In contrast, the Mexican driver said that he agrees he was too belligerent in the last race. But, he asserted that his teammate was equally aggressive on track.
Besides, he said that he has not apologised to the 2009 world champion.
“I think that the criticism took place right after the end of the race,” he said. “We had the chance to talk, which was very good for me, the team and for Jenson.
It was said in various publications that I apologised to Jenson, but it wasn't like that.”
In addition, he expressed that both of them owe an apology to their team for their on-track behaviours in the last race as they were very aggressive. He also said
that he still shares a good relationship with Button.
“I didn't apologise to him because I didn't think it was necessary. We owed an apology to the team and that's what we talked about. We apologised to the team because
we risked a lot and we were both very aggressive, but no, at no moment did I apologise and my relationship with Jenson is still okay,” he added.
