McLaren driver Sergio Perez has said that he never lost his confidence despite struggling during the start of the 2013 Formula 1 season and has shown his critics
that he can do a good job.
Perez could only score two points in the first three rounds of the season which he scored with his 9th place finish in the Malaysian Grand Prix held at
Sepang International Circuit. After the Chinese GP, the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh asserted that the Mexican driver needs to toughen up.
Nevertheless, the 23-year-old showed a convincingly performance in the Bahrain GP and managed to secure 6th place finish after setting off from 12th
grid slot.
After attaining competitive result in the last race, he said that although they have been through some tough moments during the start of the season, but he never
felt upset and has shown his critics that he is capable of scoring good points.
“We've been through some very difficult moments but I think this is the start of our season,” he is quoted as saying by Autosport. “I never lost my confidence, I
always believed in myself. I've shown the critics that I can do a good job.”
In addition, he admired all his team members for providing him a competent car in the last race with which he competed really well at the Bahrain International Circuit
in Sakhir.
“The strategy and the pace of the car allows you to be different,” he said. “You are not defending, you are attacking.”
“It was a great weekend all the way through. It was a very nice surprise for us [to compete at the front],” he added.
It will be important to note that he had a conflict with his teammate, Jenson Button after the fourth race in which they contacted twice during the race while they
were aggressively fighting for a position. Nonetheless, both the drivers are now looking forward to attain better results of their team in the forthcoming races.
At present, he is standing at 11th place in the drivers’ championship with 10 points and is ahead of Adrian Sutil of Force India. Let’s see whether he
will be able to perform with consistency in the season ahead or not.
