Sergio Perez says he never received any offer from Ferrari – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Sergio Perez has said that he has never received any kind of offer from Ferrari to replace their driver, Felipe Massa in 2013.
Perez, after the Malaysian Grand Prix, has been surrounded by many speculations that the Scarlet team has been considering him as a potential replacement of Massa who struggled during the first few races. However, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali
discharged all the rumours and said that they are ready to provide everything to the Brazilian driver which he may need to improve his performance in the forthcoming races.
On the other hand, the president of the Italian team, Luca di Montezemolo also said that the Mexican driver is too young for their team and he needs more experience to join them.
Furthermore, the 22-year-old has himself clarified over the issue and has said that he has never been offered a race seat in Ferrari. He also said that even though he has been in conversations with them as he was once a part of their academy but he insisted
that he never had any discussion in this regard.
“We were talking to them but they were never an option,” he said. “I've been talking with them because I was part of their academy and I have contact with them and communication, but really the place that I've got [at McLaren] is the best place where I can
be.”
Besides, he thanked Ferrari for all their support in his career in the sport. In addition, it is to be noted that he has recently signed a new multi-year contract with McLaren as Lewis Hamilton’s replacement who will be joining Mercedes in the next season.
Besides, he said that he is really glad that he has made his way into one of the biggest teams in the history of F1 and expressed his immense gratitude towards them.
“I'm so happy and I thank them [Ferrari] also because they've helped me a lot to come into Formula One, but now I'm moving forward and I want to thank McLaren for taking me on board and to trust in me,” he added.
