Sergio Perez says he realises the pressure of driving in a big team – Formula 1 news
Sergio Perez, who is going to drive with McLaren in the 2013 Formula 1 season, has said that he realises the pressure of driving in a big team.
Perez performed tremendously well with Sauber in this season and attained competitive results for his team. He has been considered as one of the most talented youngsters in the field as he managed to secure three podium finishes in this year.
The Mexican driver successfully secured a multi-year contract with the Woking based squad following the news of Lewis Hamilton’s move to Mercedes in the next season.
It will be important to note that after securing his new deal with the British squad, he failed to attain good points for his team as a result of which he faced immense criticism over his poor form during the last few races.
In addition, the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh said that Perez should understand that he is going to drive for one of the biggest teams in the sport in the next season. Therefore, he insisted that the 22-year-old must be prepared for a lot
of pressure in the coming year.
Nevertheless, the veteran driver has said that he is very well prepared to handle all the pressure and will try to come up to the expectations of his new team. Besides, he said that his aim is to win the world championship for which he will fight hard.
“Of course there is extra pressure when you’re driving at the front. I have to get used to that, but I have already had a taste of it at Sauber,” he is quoted by the Dutch website formule.nl.
“When I was on the podium I was a superstar, and when I didn’t do well, I was the driver who made too many mistakes,” admitted Perez.
“I want to win titles with this team, so I want to do it next year,” he said. “It will be a long season, so it’s important that I am well prepared from beginning in order to satisfy their expectations.”
Let’s see how he performs in the next season.
