Sergio Ramos says Real Madrid needs to keep winning
Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has said he is pleased with his side’s start to the season.
After seeing off the challenge of Espanyol on Tuesday, Madrid rose to the top of the league with 10 points from their first four games. 2010 FIFA World Cup winner Ramos has insisted that he and his teammates can keep up their strong form and continue stay
in the good books of the demanding Bernebau fans.
He told his club’s official website that, “We are winning games and playing consistent football, which at this point of the season is all that counts. We want to continue getting better to please our fans, which is what we work hard on every day. This team
is only getting better.”
The 24-year-old added that the solid defensive record — Madrid has only shipped one goal so far this season — was due to the entire team working together.
He said that, “Our solid defence is due to the team's hard work. Defending for a team as offensive as Real Madrid isn't that easy. We have always been looked at under a microscope, but we are accomplishing our objectives and we know that Iker [Casillas]
is a lifeline in goal."
Spain international Ramos also bemoaned the fact that Madrid is having to contend with a congested fixture list as they chase silverware both domestically and in Europe, but added that Madrid has a large, talented squad, all of whom are able to deal with
the rigours of playing twice a week.
He said that, “We are playing every three days, but there is nothing we can do about it. We must take on each match as best we can and try to recover from each as quickly as possible. We have a deep bench and talented players. It's up to the coach to decide
who is in the best shape to play each match.”
