Sergio Ramos to undergo scan after being injured in Scotland match
Spain international Sergio Ramos will undergo a scan after picking up an injury in his side’s UEFA 2012 European Football Championship qualifying win over Scotland on Tuesday, October 12.
The Real Madrid defender strained his right knee in the 3-2 victory, and his club has announced that he will undergo treatment for the injury.
A statement on Madrid’s official website read, “Sergio Ramos has strained the internal lateral ligament of his right knee, for which Sanitas-Real Madrid Medical Services have recommended medical treatment and physiotherapy.”
Madrid will visit Malaga on Saturday when La Liga resumes after the international break, but the likelihood of Ramos’ involvement is likely to be determined after the results of the scan are released. If the injury keeps him out of action for even a week,
he could be sidelined for the crunch UEFA Champions League match against AC Milan.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup winner has been ever present for both club and country over the last few years, with his dangerous runs up the flanks causing opponents all manner of problems.
After making the switch to Madrid from Sevilla in 2005, the 24-year-old was most often deployed as a central defender, while also being drafted in to act as emergency cover in the defensive midfield position. His strong performances helped Madrid claim the
La Liga title in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons, as well as the Supercopa de Espana in 2008.
He made his debut for the Spain national team in 2005 and has already amassed 71 caps as the first choice right-back for his country. Ramos won the Euro 2008 title and was part of the squad which lifted the 2010 FIFA World Cup, a tournament in which he was
named the best player, according to the Castrol Index player-rating system.
