Sergiy Stakhovsky breaks down Kamil Capkovic in first round fixture – Slovak Open 2011
Sergiy Stakhovsky, Ukrainian world No.62, made his way through to the second stage of Slovak Open 2011, beating his opening round counterpart, Kamil Capkovic, Slovakian world No.258, in straight sets, 7-6(4), 7-5, in 2 hour and
3 minutes of hard indoor court match on Monday, 14th of November 2011.
The disparity in ranking was a great advantage the Ukrainian had. Adding to that, Stakhovsky has been playing big shots as well which gave his a tactical advantage over his opening round rival.
Commencing with the match, Ukrainian world No.62, also the second seed for Slovak Open 2011, opened up the match starter, serving first. However, the match had a rather twisting start. Stakhovsky broke down in the first game, yet
broke back in right away and then again, broke down.
Stakhovsky broke game four to level the scores at 2-2 and making this the fourth breakpoint of the set, two for either of the two. Anyhow, with a fiery start, the two bagged a game each after the breakpoint successions, to level
up at 3-3, before the two broke each other for the third time.
Breaking one after the other, the two once again levelled up at 4-4. The game settled as the two has no more breakpoint; however, the set did follow into a tiebreaker. Opening the tiebreaker, Stakhovsky did have the Slovakian on
his tail till the first eight points, however, he shook him off after that, bagging the tiebreaker, 7-4, and the set, 7-6(4), and led the match, 1-0.
Capkovic, Slovakian world No.258, continued the second set, nearly losing a breakpoint, 1-0. Stakhovsky, looking to end the fixture soon and easy, kept on the Slovakian’s tail bagging games of respective serves before he broke
the local lad for the first time in the set, game six.
Igniting the fixture, World No.62 served out game five and broke in sixth to lead the set 4-2, however, Capkovic struck back as he broke back right away and served out to level the scores at 4-4. Leading to 5-5 with a service winner
by each of the two, Stakhovsky made his final move in the crucial stages of the match.
Breaking the lower ranked local lad, Ukrainian broke game eleven, 6-5, and served out game twelve with a marvellous triple game point winner to finish off the second set, 7-5, and the match in straight and easy set.
Making his way through to the second stage of the ATP Challenger Tour event, Stakhovsky now goes on to play against Maxime Teixeira, Frenchman, to battle out the quarter-final seat of Slovak Open 2011.
