Serie A Forward of the season so far (Part 1)
In the years gone by, Serie A was tagged ‘the most defensive league’ by press and pundits alike. Goals were a rarity and a single was often enough to earn three precious points. Teams such as Juventus, AC Milan and more recently http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan won Scudettos
by grinding out 1 – 0 victories against inferior oppositions.
Following the 2006 Calciopoli scandal, there has been a paradigm shift. The likes of AC Milan and Juventus were weakened to a considerable degree and as a result, smaller teams often attacked them looking for a result. Even though the balance of power has
been shifted back to normal – traditional big teams returning to top four – smaller teams have not deserted their attacking mentality and that will work wonders for the competitiveness of the league.
Serie A has grown into one of the most competitive leagues in Europe and goals have come aplenty. Bettor.com now identifies the attacking masters and gives out the verdict on who has been the outstanding performer:
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Edinson-Cavani-c11955
The Uruguayan forward’s talent was never in doubt but he failed to reach the levels expected of him while he was wearing Palermo jersey. Maurizio Zamparini decided to offload the player to fellow Champions League hopefuls, SSC Napoli, and that has worked
a treat. The 17 million Euros man is now mounting a genuine claim to get the ‘world class’ title.
In just 25 appearances with Partenopei, Cavani has found the back of net an impressive 17 times. The fact that its Cavani’s first season in Naples adds more glitter to this accomplishment. The Uruguayan forward has shouldered most of the goal scoring responsibilities
and has scored some critical goals.
Owing much to some dismal showings by Italian teams in Europa League, Napoli is the sole Italian club remaining in the secondary European competition. Cavani for his part has scored 7 goals in 8 appearances and Serie A must thank the forward for upholding
some Italian pride.
Samuel Eto’o
Inter Milan have scored 32 goals in all competitions this season and Samuel Eto’o has scored 16 of them. Add a hatful of assists to the bucket and you will know how critical he has been to the Nerazzurri cause.
At the start of the season, Rafa Benitez deployed Eto’o in a more central position closer to the goal. For all his failures, Benitez’s decision to deploy the Cameroonian in the opposition box was tactically spot-on. Had it not been for Eto’o’s exploits,
Inter might well have been relegated to Europa League by now.
With the appointment of Leonardo – a proponent of attacking football – as the manager, Eto’o would be given all the freedom to attack. Nerazzurri desperately need to finish in the top four and a lot will depend on the Cameroonian’s form till the end of the
season.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-Quagliarella-c13194
The new import from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 found life hard in the early goings with Bianconeri. In recent days however, Quagliarella has found his classy scoring touch. The flashy forward is renowned for scoring spectacular goals and this season has been little different.
8 goals from 14 league appearances is a fantastic return for any striker. Where the forward has found the back of net with impressive regularity, Quagliarella's link-up play with his fellow mates has been magical at time. Juventus would do well to sign the
forward on permanent basis.
