Serie A: Juventus chase Dzeko while Milan hold onto Silva
Juventus have again reiterated their desire to sign the Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko. Dzeko, who currently plays for Wolfsburg has impressed in his displays for the German club and has gained notice from several big clubs around Europe.
The likes of Chelsea and Manchester United have been interested in signing the forward but up till now only Juventus have been relatively vocal in their ever growing love for the 24 year old striker. Dzeko joined Wolfsburg from Teplice, which is a club based in the Czech football league.
His transfer to the German club, Wolfsburg amounted to around four million Euros. Dzeko is renowned for his heading ability and his strength to hold off challenges from more physical central defenders. In his first season in the Bundesliga, the Bosnian & Herzegovinian player made three assists and scored five goals within his first eleven matches.
He was named Bundesliga’s best striker during the first half of his debut season with Wolfsburg. Dzeko ended the season with eight goals and seven assists in seventeen starts for the club. In the 2008-2009 season, Dzeko again exploded into form as he scored thirty six goals in forty two matches and Wolfsburg ended up as the German league champions.
In the 2009-2010 season, Dzeko made forty five appearances for his German Club but only scored twenty nine goals and Wolfsburg lost the title to Bayern Munich. Recently, Italian giants Juventus’s general director Giuseppe Marotta, has stated that they will not give up in their pursuit of the powerful striker.
He went onto say that, Wolfsburg’s asking price for Dzeko has been quite high; therefore it is possible that other European clubs with better resources might be able to sign him up. However, Moratti said that Biaconeri were encouraged by the fact that the Bosnian himself had expressed interest in playing for Juventus one day.
On the other hand, Juventus’s Italian rivals A.C Milan have managed to fend off interest from Real Madrid to keep hold of their young Brazilian defender Thiago Silva. Silva joined Milan from Fluminense in a deal which amounted to around ten million Euros. Thiago Silva is known by many around the World as one of the best young talents as far as defending is concerned. He is currently learning more and more from experienced defenders at Milan such as Nesta and Kaladze.
A.C Milan’s owner Silvio Berlusconi told the press that, Real Madrid had made an approach for the 25-year old defender but their offers had been rejected by the Milan based club. He said that, Thiago Silva will remain at A.C Milan as the player has a contract with them till the year 2013.
Berlusconi also stated that, club have a contract with Ronaldinho and will like to keep him in Milan. He also said that he considers Ronaldinho to be the strongest player of all time. He further added that, Ronaldinho can easily play for a few more years because of the quality he possesses.
