Serie A News: AC Milan’s striker Marco Borriello rejects offer from Juventus; joins Roma on loan
The 28-year old Italian striker Marco Borriello has confirmed that he is heading to AS Roma from AC Milan this season after the two clubs agreed on a loan deal.
The deal could also result in a permanent signing of the player from Rossoneri to La Maggica. The player has been asking for a move since early summers as he complained that he was being overshadowed by players in the club.
His lack of exposure became eminent after the two football superstars, Swedish Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Brazilian Robinho, were signed in the last moments before the transfer window closed on the 31st of August.
The Italian player had another option as well, and that was to join the other major Italian club Juventus, a club with a lustrous history and one that has been quite consistent in their performance, but sources have revealed that the player refused to the deal majorly because of salary issues and because the player was rebuked on the idea of a permanent transfer deal.
It is said that Borriello has committed to the Roma deal because there is a clause present in the signed papers that commit Roma to sign the player permanently next summer.
AC Milan have confirmed that there is something like that present in the deal, though they have yet failed to comment or give further information of the signing. Officials from San Siro have stated, “AC Milan communicate to have given Roma Marco Borriello on a temporary basis”.
After Juventus’ failed attempt at acquiring the striker, Juventus’ technical director Giuseppe Marotta commented, “Borriello won't arrive”, and that therefore ended the whole story. He was also quoted as saying (on Sky Sport 24): "Marco Borriello? No. Our transfer market finishes here." And speaking to television network Sportitalia, he said: "I wanted to sign Marco Borriello on loan from AC Milan and negotiations officially started two days ago. I had a deal with AC Milan yesterday, but Borriello wanted a permanent move - which was not my objective because of Juve's budgetary policy and transfer market needs. Moreover, his wage demands were a bit excessive, so I pulled out and he joined AS Roma today".
It is reported that the transfer deal is around 15 million Euros.
While speaking to the media, Borriello stated that he was exuberant on his new move and hoped that he will have a bright future with the club. He also added that it was always helpful to make a switch between clubs in his home country and that will benefit him in settling down quickly and playing responsibly for his club.
“I am now a Roma player and I am very happy,” he was quoted as saying.
