Serie A News: Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti attacks Jose Mourinho for leaving Nerazzurri for Real Madrid
The rift between the Italian and Spanish footballing giants Inter Milan and Real Madrid continues to grow, as the owner of the blue and black part of San Siro Massimo Moratti has declared his former manager, Jose Mourinho as a betrayer.
The president of Nerazzurri, Moratti has unsheathed his dagger and taken a scathing swing at the Portuguese coach for leaving them this summer to Bernabeu.
It is no secret that Jose Mourinho has been in desire to manage t top notch clubs since the start of his career and at the mere age of 47 years, he has already managed at Porto Chelsea, Inter Milan and now at Real Madrid.
The amazing thing about his coaching periods is that he has always been successful where ever he has managed, being able to win titles and trophies. At such a young age, this is a humongous achievement that has never been registered before.
The manager has been able to acquire Champions League titles as well as League titles like it was a simple challenge of stealing candies from a six year old.
Mourinho has also been known to take jobs where challenges lay to be conquered, for instance the Portuguese coach started with Porto and helped them win the Champions League title.
From there he helped Chelsea in stabilizing itself and become the major footballing power it is today. The same is the story with Inter Milan. Mourinho went there and proved that he can win all titles that are scattered in his path.
Now that the massive club Real Madrid had been failing despite of having loads in funds and no less talent, the manager has stepped up to change their image as an underachieving club, which they as a matter of fact are.
Mourinho was appointed the Inter Milan manager in the summer of 2008. This is after coach won the Scudetto of 2008-09. After that, he guided the Beneamata to a momentous treble during the season of 2009-10.
In spite of being in a roll at the Italian club, Mourinho wanted challenges and therefore the Portuguese manager left the Italian champions though they were the Champions League winners. This is not the first time he has done this though.
He therefore went on to manage at Bernabeu with the ailing Los Blancos. There were intense talks between the two clubs as Mourinho still had a binding contract with the Nerazzurri, this clause did prevent Mourinho from making a direct move to Spain.
In the end, hierarchy of both clubs lined up at a neutral venue to negotiate a transfer which obviously could have resulted in just one scenario and that was the filthy rich Real Madrid handing in bags of money to Inter.
According to reports, Real made an amount of 400 million pounds from just their sponsorships and merchandise last summer, a summer in which they had spent a record of 250 million pounds on their players. Therefore, with a club as wealthy as Real, money is
really no object.
Moratti has obviously criticized the club over their money squandering. He has also stated that the transfer of Mourinho is extremely unfair. He went on further lambasting against the manager, “It was like a husband cheating on his wife, but seeing as he cares
for her and doesn’t have the courage to admit to it, he climbed out the window.”
Moratti also commented if Mourinho was in a similar situation to Helenio Herrera. Herrera created one of the worst controversies on coaching history when he left Inter Milan to manage at arch rivals Roma as they were offering him a gigantic pay raise.
On the issue Moratti stated, “Is Mourinho like Herrera? Football has changed,”
said the president.
He added, “The coaches didn’t used to be on the transfer market, but now they are. Mourinho and Herrera do have many things in common: they are genial, professional, but above all do hard work. ‘Il Mago’ worked so much and the same can be said of Mourinho.”
