Serie A News: Inter Milan’s Walter Samuel and Thiago Motta might be out of Roma clash
An interesting match is expected between Inter Milan and Roma on Saturday, after bricks being thrown around from Rome and San Siro at each other. The two rivals would be one-on-one on somewhat equal planes this time as the Nerazzurri
defender, Walter Samuel, might not play in the game. Rumor has it that he will be omitted from the match as he has been facing muscular strains in his leg.
Earlier, a couple of Roma players also had an injury scare and it is still not confirmed if they will actually participate in the match this Saturday. Last season, while Inter Milan had won the Serie A title, it was Roma, who had
finished 2nd. This caused the rift between the Italian Giants to grow. The much anticipated clash will now be under even more intense and hyped up emotions as the two best battle it out for the dominance in Italy.
Inter Milan would be traveling to Roma’s home ground, Stadio Olimpico in Rome for the match and therefore, they would need all the experience they have to counter their opponent’s home advantage. This is where the 32-year-old centre
back comes into place. Samuel has featured in 149 matches for Inter Milan since his acquisition in 2005-06. He managed to score a goal in each of the following seasons and now boasts a tally of 11 as a defender for the club.
Inter Milan Officials have confirmed that the player has suffered an injury to his right leg but it doesn’t look to be serious. They added that a team of doctors is conducting examinations and scans while the final word will be
out soon. The 50-year-old Spaniard, Rafael Benitez, who is currently managing Inter Milan after an ugly exit from Liverpool, is bound to take no chances in the clash as he gels on and settles into the Italian League.
It seems as if the Italian brand does suit him more after all he leads the table on top of all others. His Liverpool exit has proven to be a blessing in disguise for him. It appears that he has grown more stable with the Nerazzurri
being back to his provoking methods after launching a scathing attack on the Liverpool owners and their hierarchy. Still, it is being suggested that the manager should concentrate more on his team, if he wants to be compared with Jose Mourinho, who was leading
Inter Milan last season and had won treble with them. The treble included the Champions League title too. After the long troubled and tattered summers, Rafa does have a lot of work at San Siro.
Moreover, there is some more bad news for The Black and Blues as the 28-year-old Brazilian midfielder, Thiago Motta, missed the team practice on Thursday. So, there is a big chance that he will miss the game against Roma too. The
former Atletico Madrid and Barcelona player was a main feature in the Inter midfield, last season. He was bought over the summers of 2009-10 from Genoa, having appeared in 37 fixtures since then. The midfielder also scored 4 goals for the club.
With two of Rafa’s main men gone from the team for now, the Spaniard will have tough time in proving that the Nerazzuri are still the top team in Italy. It does seem that Roma is entering the clash heavy handed after all.
