Serie A Round-ups
Lazio win again as Juve and Roma draw away
Serie A leaders Lazio have made it four wins in a row by edging out against Cagliari as Inter, Roma and Juventus drew their matches.
Lazio maintained their superb start to the season by defeating Cagliari 2-1 at home.
Sergio Floccari put the home side in front midway through the first half and Stefano Mauri doubled the advantage eight minutes into the second half. Cagliari pulled a goal back through Alessandro Matri but Lazio held firm to record another win that keeps
them on top of the standings.
Vincenzo Iaquinta saw his penalty saved by Emiliano Viviano as Juventus were held to a draw away to the struggling Bologna.
Roma, who have won just 2 games in the league so far were once again frustrated as they played a dull 0-0 away to bottom placed
Parma.
Cyril Thereau scored in injury time to give Chievo Verona a 2-1 win against 10-man Cesena.
Cesar put Chievo ahead with a 31st minute goal but Roberto Guana’s own goal levelled things in first-half stoppage time. The visitors had Steve von Bergen sent off in the 88th minute before Cyril Thereau grabbed three points for Chievo
one minute into injury time.
Marco Rossi scored in the 70th minute to give Genoa a 1-0 home win against Catania to leapfrog over their opponents in the table.
10-man Udinese held on to beat Palermo. The win pulls the club out of the relegation zone.
Medhi Benatia put Udinese ahead 9 minutes into the first half and then in the 54th minute, Antonio Di Natale’s penalty put the home team in command. Andrea Coda was sent-off in the 65th minute while in the 83rd minute Mauricio
Pinilla pulled a goal back for Palermo to set up a nervy finale to the game. But Udinese held on to their 3rd win of the season.
Lecce picked up much-needed three points as they came from behind to see off Brescia 2-1 at home. Andrea Caracciolo put the visitors in front after 19 minutes however Edward Ofere and David
Di Michele had other plans as they scored in the second half to earn their side a well deserved victory.
In the last game of the day, reigning champions Inter Milan came from behind to salvage a point against Sampdoria at San Siro.
Stefono Guberti put the visitors in front with a ferocious volley from Antonio Cassano’s cross in the 62nd minute but in-form Nerazzurri striker Samuel Eto scored in the 80th minute to get a point for his side.
Inter are now second in the table, four behind league leaders Lazio and Sampdoria have dropped to eighth place.
Roma in a major crisis
The Roman giants have had a dismal start to the season with just 9 points from 8 games that include just 2 wins. They once again failed to display the kind of game Roma team is famous for as they drew 0-0 draw against lowly Parma, therefore that positions
them at the 14th place.
Claudio Ranieri has the backing of the board since the board has deemed him “irremovable” but that is presumably going to last for only a little while. Francesco Totti has now failed to score in the last 14 matches for his side and the talismanic figure
at Roma seems to be a shadow of his former self as he is reaching the limelight of his long career. Roma need to hit top-gear starting from next week if they are to save their blushes and need to find their goal scoring touch for that matter as well.
Man of the week
Inter Milan’s Samuel Eto scored again to bring his side level against Sampdoria. The Cameroon international has now scored 15 goals in 13 matches so far this season and seems to be a man on a mission.
Hero of the week
French striker Cyril Thereau scored in the injury time to earn three points for Chievo Verona.
Zero of the week
Serbian, Milos Krasic earned a penalty against Bologna to give Juventus a chance to take the lead. Up stepped Vincenzo Iaquinta who squandered the chance.
