The Uruguayan first came to fame with an excellent campaign at the FIFA U-17 world cup where his finishing was a particular highlight. Palermo president, Maurizio Zamparini, snapped up the youngster for a minimal fee in 2008 as the youngster started his
European adventure on Palermo bench.
With Miccoli and Amauri leading the lines for Rosanero, Cavani had little time to make an impact but he bid his time patiently, learning from his more experienced partners instead.
However, with departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Amauri-c5381 in 2008, Cavani was finally given the chance to prove his worth. The player impressed for Rosanero for a period of two years. Cavani scored 34 goals in 109 league appearances but such a return was not impressive enough for
Mr. Zamparini who decided to cash-in on the star.
Napoli took the striker on loan with an option to buy him outright for 17 million Euros. Cavani has been an absolute revelation in Naples. While he scored 14 league goals last season from 34 games, Cavani has already found the back of net 10 times in just
17 league games this season.
Napoli would do well to sign the player outright at the earliest for he has the potential to lead the line for a bigger club and that too in a bigger competition – Champions League anyone?
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Josip-Ilicic-c19564 (MK Maribor to US Palermo)
Yet another one of Zamparini’s transfers is Ilicic. Palermo were playing Maribor in a Europa league qualifier and as it so happened, Ilicic played against Palermo. Ilicic gave Rosanero a run for their money and Mr. Zamparini was impressed, impressed enough
to buy outright.
No one in the league or in Europe had heard of Ilicic and Serie A teams were certainly not ready for him – AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Pastore-c18082, Ilicic has taken the league by storm and his 6 goals from 13 appearances
is a fantastic return. Keeping in mind the fact that he doesn’t not play as an out-and-out striker, 6 goals is a fantastic return.
The author certainly has his doubts if Zamparini can hold on to his player beyond this season.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Storari-c23751 (AC Milan to Juventus FC)
AC Milan were never blessed with quality goalkeepers while opposite holds true for Juventus. Storari had an excellent campaign with UC Sampdoria last season and many expected Milan to extend his contract at San Siro. However, AC Milan sold him to Juventus
for a minimal fee. Many expected the player to rot on the bench as Juve already have the legendary http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gianluigi-Buffon-c14833 and Alexander Manninger.
However, Storari had an ally in Turin – former Sampdoria coach Del Neri – and the manager preferred Storari ahead of Manninger in Gigi’s absence. Storari was brought for a fee of 4.5 million Euros and he has repaid the faith with a series of outstanding
performances. Buffon has not been missed by the Bianconeri faithful and that is one h**l of an achievement. Calls for his inclusion in the Azzurri setup are justified to say the least.
