Serie A Special: What we learnt from round 21 matches - (Part 2)
Ibrahimovic wins it for Milan, again
How many times have you read that headline this season already? Yours truly has lost count. AC Milan took on AC Cesena in a bid to avenge the defeat they were handed on match day two. Allegri’s men achieved the desired result with a 2–0 score line. No prizes
for guessing as Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a hand in both the goals.
For the first goal, Zlatan ran on to a chipped pass from Cassano and just when he was about to pull the trigger, Maximiliano Pellegrino intervened. Sadly for the defender, he could only watch the ball bounce into his own net. The Rossoneri’s second was yet
another immaculate finish from the lanky Swede, who has made it a habit of scoring difficult goals. With Rossoneri set to play a barrage of games in the coming month, they will need Ibra’s exploits more than ever.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629, which undoubtedly makes him one of the top three strikers in the world.
SS Lazio have run out of steam
Eduardo Reja’s Lazio took the league by storm at the start of the season. Their run of seven wins from their opening nine games was unmatched, as Aquile went atop the league standings after years of under achievement. Many expected the Flying Eagles to hit
the ground towards the end of last year, but Reja’s troops held their own.
Much to the surprise of many, Lazio have struggled since the start of 2011. In a three week long break, Aquile players should have returned stronger than ever, brimming with regained energy and confidence. Sadly for Serie A, that didn’t happen. Reja’s men
could only muster four points from a possible 12 in January. Their latest loss came at the hands of Bologna FC; a team Lazio should be dispatching with ease if they expect to finish in the top four.
While the loss can be attributed to Emiliano Viviano’s goalkeeping heroics for Rossoblu, it can be said that Calcio teams have learned how to deal with the Aquile’s forward movement. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hernanes-c16150 in particular has been unable to match the stunning form he displayed
in the earlier goings.
Juventus will struggle to finish in the top four
La Vecchia Signora was expected to mount a Scudetto challenge this season, and even managed to go as high as second for a brief period. However, injuries and inconsistency have been their undoing. Juventus are currently sixth in the league, two points behind
SS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775, who occupy the last Champions League berth.
While Bianconeri have scored goals aplenty - the second highest in the league after AC Milan - their defence has left a lot to be desired. Juve have the worst defensive record in the top six teams with 25 goals conceded, averaging more 1.2 goals per game.
In spite of acquiring http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-Bonucci-c22064 in the summer, the Bianconeri have failed to strengthen their defence, particularly the wing-back areas where most of the goals have been conceded from.
With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Amauri-c5381 looking a shadow his former self, Juve are finding it hard to unlock opposition defences. A top class striker was a necessity, but the Juve hierarchy failed to make a move, and that may
result in failure to land Champions League football yet again.
Those sentiments were also echoed by the perennial guru of Italian football, and former Juventus General Director Luciano Moggi. He said" It was a nasty game against Sampdoria. It was not a game of football and you can see both teams' struggles technically.
Juve can fight for fourth place, but it will not be easy."
