Serie A: Top players of Round 19 (Part 2)
Esteban Cambiasso (Inter Milan)
Leonardo and Inter Milan continued the revival that started with the Brazilian’s appointment. While they started the New Year started with an impressive 3–1 hammering of an in-form http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 outfit, this game was a test of their consistency. Needless to say,
Inter Milan passed the litmus test with flying colours.
Playing against the hostile Sicilian crowd, the Nerazzurri edged the game with a 2 – 1 score line. The goals however, came from the most unlikely of the sources; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Esteban-Cambiasso-c12912. The Argentine is usually responsible for all the defensive work in the midfield
and attack is surely not his forte.
On Sunday, Cambiasso was not at his best in defence, leaving space for Catania to run into. However, his goals proved priceless. The hallmark of a great team is the ability of its midfielders to contribute goals. Inter are certainly back on track.
Carlos Grossmueller (UC Lecce)
Giallorossi faced the daunting task of playing SS Lazio - one of the best teams in the Serie A this season - away from
home. Aquile were second in the standings prior to the game, and a humiliating defeat was predicted by yours truly.
Needless to say, the author was made to eat his own words. Lecce registered a historic result by triumphing against all odds. The final score line read 2–1 in favour of Salentini, and Grossmueller had a big part to play in that. The Uruguayan midfielder
dominated a superiorly talented http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 midfield, and scored the all important winner in the 73rd minute.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Edinson-Cavani-c11955 (SSC Napoli)
This Uruguayan gem is getting frighteningly good. While Cavani scored 13 league goals in the whole of last season, he has equalled that tally after just 19 games this term.
A player who is good with both feet, has a genius brain, colossus strength and deadly in the air; Cavani is every inch the forward manager’s dream of. Against Juventus on Sunday, the striker demonstrated his aerial prowess by scoring a headed brace.
Napoli won the game 3–0 score line. Partenopei were going into this match on the back of 3–1 thrashing at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan, and it was just the kind of reaction coach Walter Mazzarri would have wanted.
With Di Natale and Cavani jointly leading the Capocannoniere charts, the battle for Serie A’s top marksman will go down to the wire.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Cassano-c6302 (AC Milan)
‘Il Talento di Bari’ is out of shape, has a fiery personality and lacks fitness. However, Massimiliano Allegri won’t mind the extra pounds, as long as Cassano continues to change games the way he has done in his first two appearances for his new club.
Last week, the gifted playmaker was given 15 minutes to impress and he did just that by setting up Rodney Strasser for the winner. On Sunday, Antonio went one better. With the Rossoneri losing the game 3–2, Cassano was introduced. The mercurial forward set
up two goals with delightful assists, as Udinese and Milan played out a nerve wrecking 4–4 draw at the San Siro.
Should the former Sampdoria ace manage to bond with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexandre-Pato-c4901, the Rossoneri will have one of the best attacking line ups in whole of Europe.
