Serie A - US Palermo vs. Parma FC: Half time report (part 1)
Palermo and Parma are locking horns at Stadio Renzo Barbera. While Parma’s primary objective will be to avoid relegation in the end of this season, Rosanero are Champions League hopefuls and anything less than three points will be a considered a disaster
for their campaign.
The two teams took to the pitch with following line ups.
Palermo:
Salvatore Sirigu, Cesare Bovo, Ezequiel Munoz, Dorin Goian, Federico Balzaretti, Nicola Rigoni, Armin Bacinovic, Antonio Nocerino, Josip Ilicic, Jaiver Pastore, Fabrizio Miccoli
Parma:
Antonio Mirante, Marco Pisano, Alessandro Lucarelli, Gabriel Paletta, Cristian Zaccardo, Stefano Morrone, Blerim Dzemaili, Antonio Candreva, Mariano Almeida Angelo, Hernan Crespo, Sebastian Giovinco
The game:
Parma started the game with Giovicno kicking off and immediately the two sides were going for broke. The game had good intensity with both sides looking adventurous in the early goings. Palermo made the first shot on goal as Pasotre’s excellent run and pass
freed up Ilicic for a shot but the striker fired over.
Ilicic was punished for his wastefulness by Parma on the other end of the pitch in seventh minute when Ducali won a corner and Alessandro Lucarelli scored from Giovinoc’s perfect delivery. Rosanero looked shocked following the goal and Candreva nearly teed
up Crespo with a cross but Antonio Nocerino came to Rosanero’s rescue.
Ducali were enjoying a very good spell with a third of the first half gone. Only Javier Pastore looked dangerous of the Palermo lot. In seventeenth minute, Palermo defence was left chasing shadows once more as Sirigu had to make an excellent save on Candreva’s
sizzling shot.
To their credit, Palermo slowly regained a footing in the game and during the 21st minute, Miccoli found Ilicic in a good position however the Slovenian striker dragged his shot wide. Nonetheless, Parma upped the tempo just when Rosanero appeared
to be growing back in the game and Salvatore Sirigu had to be on his toes yet again as he made a good stop from a pin-point Giovinco corner.
Palermo were finding it increasingly hard breaking down a superbly organized Parma defence and on the 27 minute mark, Miccoli took a tumble in the Ducali penalty box looking for a penalty but the referee wasn’t having any of it as the Rosanero skipper had
gone down rather too easily.
