Serie A captains sign an open letter to boycott the new season
The captains of all 20 teams featuring in the 2011/12 Serie A have threatened to go on strike for the opening week fixtures of the new campaign if the collective bargaining contract is not signed in the next few days.
The new campaign is scheduled to begin on 27th August 2011 but the Italian Footballers Association and Lega Serie A officials have failed to reach a common ground. The same situation took place last season too but the
player’s association compromised to give more time to reach an agreement.
The letter read, “The Serie A players want to make the public aware of the disconcerting situation around the collective bargaining contract. The agreement reached by the delegation of the AIC and the Lega Serie A, certified by
the FIGC in December 2010, were ignored by the clubs with a surprising and unacceptable decision.”
“As a consequence, the inadmissible period of deregulation around our world continues to drag on. It threatens our rights and could even put our contracts in jeopardy.”
The player’s Association has clearly mentioned that they will not compromise this time around and will boycott the start of the new season until the contract is signed. Several reports suggest that the start of the season might
get delayed by a month due to this ongoing problem. However, the Serie A officials will be looking to resolve the matter as early as possible to avoid another controversy in Italian football.
The Italian football which was at one time regarded as one of the best leagues in the world has lost its glamour lately. The league has been rocked by several infamous incidents of late and has suffered the consequences as well.
The Calciopoli scandal rocked the game few years back and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926’s most successful club, Juventus, were relegated from Serie A, while other teams suffered point deductions. On the other hand, Italy have fallen down in the UEFA rankings
of the leagues and their fourth team Champions League place has been awarded to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904.
