Serie A findings Round 11 – What we learned from this week’s fixtures (Part 1)
The Serie A this week had some truly enthralling games and the sides failed to disappoint. AC Milan went atop the Serie A rankings with a convincing 3 – 1 victory over US Palermo. SS Lazio’s shock 1 – 0 defeat to Cesena made it possible
for Rossoneri.
Roma’s resurgence continued with yet another victory. The Gilarossi defeated Fiorentina by a 3 – 2 score line in a highly entertaining game. Elsewhere, injury ravaged Juventus and Inter Milan could only manage draws in their respective
games.
Calcio never ceases to amaze the spectators and this time was no different. Some observations were made that are being presented to our readers.
Palermo aren’t ready yet
Rosanero have been one of the most entertaining sides so far in the Italian game this year. Maurizio Zamparini made some inspired purchases this summer and coupled with the burgeoning talent of Javier Pastore, the club was aiming for a
Champions League place.
Rosanero even managed to achieve some classic results, the 3 – 1 victory over Juventus being their performance of the season. However, the club is now suffering from a dip in form. With three defeats from their last four League outings,
Pastore’s side has dropped to 9th in the league.
Such decrease in form raises the question whether Rosanero were capable of finishing in the top four in the first place. Javier Pastore is an undoubted talent who will go on to have a truly illustrious career. However, the Argentine cannot
play for his teammates. Palermo are on the right track but the project is far from complete.
In Ilicic and Pinilla, Delio Rossi has two highly talented forwards and with Pastore playing just behind them, Palermo has a truly blessed attack. However, the squad depth is an issue that Zamparini will have to look into. The club doesn’t
have a substitute for Pastore. Pastore was well marshalled by the Rossoneri midfield last night and with the playmaker unable to weave his magic, Palermo visibly struggled. Rosanero need more match winners in their squad if they are to challenge the likes
of AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus and Roma for Champions League spots.
Inter Milan will struggle in the league
The Inter injury crisis continues to grow worse. As things stand, Rafa Benitez is without the services of Wesley Sneijder, Maicon, Sulley Muntari, McDonald Mariga, Thiago Motta, Suazo, Esteban Cambiasso, Julio Cesar and Walter Samuel.
Most of these players are key first team players.
Inter’s poor run of form can be entirely blamed on such severe an injury crisis. With Walter Samuel out for the entire season, Inter will be without a defensive stalwart who won them a historic treble last season.
Any team in the world will struggle to make an impact when they have eight first team players out nursing their injuries. Inter is not an exception. The goals have been a commodity hard to come by for Nerazzuri as displayed in the sides
1 – 1 draw against Lecce last night.
Unless Rafa Benitez looks for reinforcements in the winter transfer market, President Massimo Moratti will have to do without any silverware this season.
