Serie A findings Round 7 – What we learned from this week’s fixtures (Part 2)
3. Liverpool’s loss is Juventus’ gain
This obviously refers to the Liverpool outcast, Alberto Aquilani. The former Roma midfielder was crucified by the British press time and time again last year for his failures. Benitez knew exactly what he was gambling with – a player of prodigious skill
albeit with his injury package. Despite putting in some strong performances for the Reds towards the end of the season, the player was loaned out by the new manager Roy Hodgson.
Aquilani will certainly have the last laugh since the player is finding his lost groove with the Bianconeri while Liverpool is in complete disarray. Against Lecce, the player was something close to his best with his astounding range of passing on display,
yet again.
Liverpool will struggle to finish in the top half of the table while Aquilani and will most probably feature in the next edition of UEFA Champions League.
4. Julio Cesar the best goalkeeper in the World?
With the likes of Gianluigi Buffon and Iker Casillas still featuring for continental giants, it is indeed a strong statement to make. However, Julio Cesar’s form over the past couple of seasons implies just that.
The great Bianconeri custodian has been struggling with recurring injuries for the last three season while Casillas has made a habit of losing his head every once in a while. His atrocious decision to come off his line against Alexandre Pato last season
bears testimony to that.
Much has been said about the form of Samuel Eto’o at Inter but in fact it’s the Heroics of the Brazilian number one that saved Nerazzuri the blushes last night. The goalkeeper put in a display of the highest quality with a number of astounding saves. Inter
has conceded just three goals so far and with Cesar in such inspired form, it hardly comes as a surprise.
5. Inter Milan might not win Scudetto this year
Again, a mighty call to make this one! Inter Milan might be second in the league but their performances have been far from convincing. Three of the four victories achieved so far have been scratchy affairs with Nerazzuri pocketing the points by a single
goal margin. The team has a lethargic outlook and without the goal scoring exploits of Diego Milito, the club is bound to suffer.
Inter Milan has played only two big sides in Roma and Juventus. The trip to Stadio Olimpico in Rome ended with a defeat against an out of form Gilarossi side while Juventus were able to hold Inter for a draw at San Siro.
With Milan, Juventus and even Lazio looking more threatening, the Scudetto fight will be a spectacle following years of Nerazzuri monopoly.
6. Alexandre Pato is the future of AC Milan
Rossoneri clearly struggled to replace the youthful exuberance of Pato during his injury forced absence. Kevin-Prince Boateng, Robinho and Ibrahimovic all tried in his stead but failed. The player brings an all together different dimension to an otherwise
slow and predictable Rossoneri play.
The youngster played in his first full match on Saturday and scored a stunning brace against Chievo as Milan brought the flying donkeys back to earth. Where his two goals were of the highest quality, it was his overall play that was really impressive. The
Brazilian is a lethal with his direct running and devastating turn of pace - An Asset that will play a major role in Milan’s Champions League hunt.
‘The Duck’ is clearly the future of the club and any plans of selling the youngster for a record profit should be shredded immediately.
