Serie A player ratings: US Palermo 3 – AS Roma 1
Last of the Serie A match day 14 games was played last night at Palermo’s Stadio Renzo Barbera where US Palermo and in-form side As Roma locked horns. Gilarossi were looking for a victory that would have propelled the Capital club into Serie A top four for
the first time this season only to be humiliated 3 – 1 by a rampant home team.
Bettor.com now analyses the players on the pitch.
US Palermo
Salvatore Sirigu – 7
The young Italy International put in an impressive shift last night. Sirigu organised his defence superbly and deserved a clean sheet for his efforts. The future Italy custodian was justly furious with his defence when Totti scored a late consolation goal.
Mattia Cassani – 6
Cassani was solid in defence and bombed forward occasionally to support the attack. However, his attacking contribution was limited as Palermo inflicted all the damage from the opposite flank.
Ezequiel Muñoz – 6.5
Munoz put in a steady shift in the heart of the defence until he was substituted at the half way mark.
Cesare Bovo – 8
Bovo was a pillar of strength at the back for Rosanero and that was evident in the first half. For all their domination, Gilarossi couldn’t find that killer ball and it was largely down to Bovo’s superb reading of the game. So much so that he forced Francesco
Totti to drop deep on countless occasions.
Federico Balzaretti – 7.5
Balzaretti has been in superb form so far this season and last night was no exception. The newly capped Italy International bombed forward all night while his defensive work was top notch. The full back had a hand in all of Rosanero’s best attacking moves
as Marco Cassetti was chasing his shadows all night.
Armin Bačinovič – 6
Armin was hardly seen in the attacking third but did the dirty work for the team with some dogged defensive work.
Giulio Migliaccio – 7.5
The likes of De Rossi, Pizzaro and Menez were unable to stamp their authority in the middle of the park and it was all down to Migliaccio’s brilliance. In a performance full of running, Migliaccio continuously harried the opposition, not giving them even
an inch of space to breathe in.
Antonio Nocerino – 7.5
The former Juventus player was in inspired form and won his personal battle with David Pizarro hands down. While he was perfect with his defensive work, Nocerino even found time to bomb forward and scored Palermo’s third.
Javier Pastore – 7
The highly rated Argentine had a strange outing. The start of the game was woeful as he frequently gave away possession with some sloppy passing and poor decision making. However, slowly grew into the game and was unstoppable in the second half.
Josip Iličič – 8
While Roma defence was busy making life tough for Pastore, Ilicic made full use of the freedom given to him. The Rosanero number 72 was a handful for Gilarossi defence and was always a threat with his long range shooting ability. Ilicic scored one and set
up another in what was a man of the match performance for the team.
Fabrizio Miccoli – 7.5
Palermo forward has a brilliant career record against AS Roma and last night was no different. Excellent movement for the opener and was a handful throughout. Miccoli was replaced in the later stages of the game to a standing ovation.
Substitutes:
Dorin Goian – 7
Goian was brought in at the start of the second period and out in a dominant display. Dorin dealt with the physical threat of Borriello with ease.
Massimo Maccarone – 6
Replaced his skipper in the second half and even put the ball into the back of the net. However, his effort was ruled offside.
Fabio Liverani – 5.5
Liverani made his return from an ijury and featured only for a few minutes. Didn’t have time to make an impact.
