Serie A round 24 findings: Juventus FC, UC Sampdoria – Part 2
Is http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alessandro-Matri-c4733 the right man for Juventus?
The Old Lady of Italian football is running the risk of losing out on Champions League football for yet another season. Currently occupying eighth spot in the league with 35 points in the bag, Juventus are seven points adrift of fourth placed SS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775, who
occupy the last Champions League berth.
Much of La Vecchia Signora’s dreadful run of recent form can be attributed to the never ending list of injuries plaguing Luigi Del Neri’s side. The club went looking for reinforcements in the January transfer window and drafted in Alessandro Matri on a loan
deal, albeit with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.
It’s arguable whether the AC Milan youth product is Juventus material. Prior to this season, the flashy forward had scored 27 goals in 118 league appearances; which is simply not good enough to be the Bianconeri marksman. However, the striker scored 11 league
goals in 19 starts for Cagliari this season. Whether this is Matri’s breakthrough season or the player turns out to be just another one-season-wonder remains to be seen, but the Juventus faithful can take hope from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Franco-c14050 Baresi’s recent praise.
Baresi, who was Matri’s coach at the AC Milan youth academy, said, “Looking at where he started, and where he has arrived, it is incredible everything he has done and achieved. You could see he had the quality and he has made stunning progress. I am really
happy and satisfied for the Italy call... He can now play alongside the best champions and learn from them.”
Such extravagant praise coming from a legend like Baresi has to count for something. The Juventus faithful have every reason to be optimistic.
UC Sampdoria continue their slide down the league table
The Blucerchiati’s slide down the Serie A charts continued with their most recent defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giampaolo-Pazzini-c14802, the club has lost five out
of the seven Serie A games they have played. Sampdoria simply lack the firepower to trouble the Serie A defences.
While the management’s objective at the start of the season was to achieve a European spot, the latest developments have thrown a spanner in the works. I Blucerchiati are now fighting for their survival in the top flight.
Riccardo Garrone has 12 million Euros at his disposal – the revenue earned from Pazzini’s transfer – to rebuild the attack.  Sampdoria have enough quality in their ranks to avoid relegation. However, Mr. President needs to start planning for the new season.
The cash in hand can be invested in young Italian forwards to reinforce the attack. I Blucerchiati could bring in the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sebastian-Giovinco-c32724 next season and start a new project altogether.
However, it will require careful planning and patience to rebuild the squad. One thing is for sure, it will take some time for Sampdoria to make it to the top four of the Serie A again.
