Serie A round sixteen: flops of the game
While Serie A this weekend was highly entertaining with plenty of enthralling action, unfortunately all the good has to come at the expense of some bad. While we witnessed some inspired performances in the Serie A this weekend, there were those who only
managed to disappoint.
Bettor.com brings forth the bad and the ugly:
Vlada Avramov (ACF Fiorentina)
Viola have been terribly unlucky with the injury crisis as both the first and second choice goalkeepers are out nursing their respective knocks. Vlada Avramov; the club’s third choice goalkeeper, was given a rare outing by Sinisa Mihajlovic and judging by
the Serb's display on the night, Mihajlovic will be praying for a swift recovery of his top goalkeepers.
While Avramov was always uncertain when called into action, he made a complete hash of Pablo Armero’s rocket of a shot. Viola were leading the game till that point but Zebrette managed to register a 2 – 1 comeback win.
Miguel Britos (Bologna Calcio)
The Uruguayan had a nightmare outing against the league leaders AC Milan and was at fault for all three Rossoneri goals. Britos, despite being 25 years of age, has still not made his international debut and his performance on the night goes a long way in
explaining that.
Britos will have to improve his game many folds before he can dream of wearing La Celeste jersey.
Christian Terlizzi (Calcio Catania)
Cagliari scored three past the Sicilians and Terlizzi, along with his partner in defence Matias Silvestre. The 31 year old couldn’t even get near Nene as the Brazlian bagged a sublime hat-trick – a performance to forget from the veteran defender.
Javier Pastore (US Palermo)
The Argentine started the season in extraterrestrial form and it prompted President Maurizio Zamparini to label the star better than Ronaldinho. Zamparini put a 70 million Euros price tag on the starlet as interest from Real Madrid and FC Barcelona was reported.
However, Pastore’s recent performances aren’t worth peanuts let alone all those millions. On the weekend, Pastore was so disappointing that Delio Rossi decided to take him off at half time with his team trailing 1 – 0 to Parma. Pastore’s replacement, Mauricio
Pinilla scored one and set up another as Rosanero registered a stunning comeback to win by a 3 – 1 score line. In short, Pastore was put to shame by his Italian teammate.
Miguel Veloso (CFC Genoa)
A lot was expected of the Portuguese as Rossoblu paid top dollar for him in the summer. However, Veloso has been unable to adapt to the more tactical Italian game so far. On the weekend against Napoli, Veloso was abysmal. While his passing and ball winning
abilities were not on display on the night, Veloso also lost Hamsik for Partenopei winner.
Edinson Cavani (SSC Napoli)
Napoli might have won the game but Cavani had little to do with the victory. The Uruguayan has had a sensational Serie A thus far but this weekend clearly did not belong to the forward. Sloppy in possession and poor movement off the ball, Cavani was a treat
to mark for the Genoa defence – will have better days in the Azzurri jersey.
