Serie A side Juventus looking to sign Porto player Fernando
Serie A giants, Juventus FC, are looking to fresh blood to their squad ahead of the upcoming 2011/12 season. Reports emerging from the Italian peninsula indicate that the Turin giants are currently monitoring Portuguese side FC Porto’s Brazilian midfielder,
Fernando. The Portuguese giants have already won the title and are hoping to play in next season’s edition of the UEFA Champions League.
The 23-year-old Brazilian is one of those players that Juventus have identified as a summer transfer target. Fernando joined the Portuguese side from Villa Novo in the summer of 2007. In his early days at Porto, the Brazilian struggled to make a strong impact
at the Dragao and spent his first season on loan at Estrela Amadora. However, the youngster returned to the Dragao last season and has become an integral part of the squad since then.
Furthermore, Juventus have scouted the holding midfielder on several occasions and it is expected that the Juventus officials will be making the trip to Moscow where Porto will play Spartak Moscow in the 2nd leg of the UEFA Europa League quarter-final.
Interest in the Brazilian is not new as he has been linked with a move to AC Milan in the past.
Fernando has been a valuable part of the Porto side that has already won the title with four games still left in the season. Of the 26 games that Porto has played, the Brazilian has appeared in 20 games. His ability to play as a box-to-box midfielder along
with his great passing of the ball has made him one of the hottest prospects in Portuguese football.
Fernando signed a 5-year contract with Porto in 2007 and his contract will end by the summer of 2012. With just one year left on his contract and his future with the Dragao still under clouds, Porto are likely to cash-in on the opportunity to sell the player
for a reasonable amount.
Fernando has so far made 54 appearances for the newly crowned Portuguese Setubal champions and is yet to be capped by the Brazilian senior side. The youngster was a part of the Brazilian Under-20 side that won the 2007 South American Youth Championship in
